2 States

What do we all admire about India? A country having a wide range of cultural influences. Unity in Diversity? There's a lot more. All of these quotations are from textbooks. When it comes to reality, an individual tradition has a significant impact on one’s life. Even today, the thought of a bride/groom coming from a different caste or culture is frowned upon. This is clear from the numerous matrimony websites available today, one for each caste. The book "2 States" is about Krish and Ananya's story of love and how they turned their love into a marriage. However, in their case, it's little spicier. Ananya is from Tamil Nadu and Krish is from Punjab.

Krish meets Ananya in the college canteen at IIM Ahmedabad. The beginning of their love life starts in college cuisine. Krish seems like a safe companion to Ananya. They became friends and began to study together. Ananya believed Krish could assist her with economics formulas and case studies because he was an IIT graduate. They fall in love with each  other eventually. They decided to take their relationship to the next level after getting good job offers from their campus interviews. At their degree convocation, they planned to introduce each other to their parents.

There would be no thrill if everything in life went as planned. Right? The strategy that Ananya and Krish devised with their parents was a complete failure. In fact, both  their parents grew bitter of the other. Krish and Ananya had suffered a big setback. Days went by. Her firm assigned Ananya to the Chennai site. Ananya was born and raised in Chennai. Krish had the option of going to either Delhi or Chennai. He obviously chose Chennai because of Ananya. The next stage of their adventure has arrived.

Ananya insisted Krish come to her house every morning to tutor her brother, Manju, who was studying for his IIT prelims. By doing so, he will have the opportunity to mingle with her family and build a good reputation. However, it is difficult for a Punjabi to integrate into Tamil culture. How did Krish adjust to his new surroundings? Is he capable of proving himself to the Ananya family? Is Ananya capable of dealing with Krish's family and relatives? How did they tie the knot? The plot continues through a number of fascinating stages.

"Love marriages around the world are simple. Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. They get married. In India, there are a few more steps. Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. Girl’s family has to love boy. Boy’s family has to love girl. Girl’s family has to love boy’s family. Boy’s family has to love girl’s family. Girl and boy still love each other. They get married."

Do you know why  majority of the parents are opposed to love?

Because, the parents here take ownership of their children’s life. And they take decisions based on their experiences and may or may not consider their child’s expectation. Again, this is not to blame all the parents. But majorly that is how our system is! Their stereotypes, however, can be broken with constant and honest attempts. It's simple and so easy to fall in love, but to stick with it and rising above all difficulties, one must have have patience and commitment!

Happy Reading😇
